FEATURED CASE STUDY:
DOE SAVANNAH RIVER SITE BIOMASS COGENERATION FACILITY
Under a $795 million Energy Saving Performance Contact (ESPC), the largest renewable-energy ESPC in U.S. history, Ameresco is replacing coal-fired cogeneration facilities at the Department of Energy's Savannah River site in Aiken, South Carolina. The new facility will generate 240,000 pounds of steam per hour and generate 20MW of electricity, reduce emissions, reduce the amount of water taken from the Savannah River and create 800 construction jobs and 125 permanent jobs. There are no up-front costs to the Department of Energy, and biomass fuel will be sourced from forest debris collected within 100 miles of the site, helping to control long-term operating costs.
