Ameresco Awarded Largest U.S. Air Force ESPC Project In History

Charlotte, NC – The largest ESPC Project in Air Force history has been awarded to Ameresco, Inc., one of the nation’s fastest growing energy services companies. The project is a $49 million energy plant modernization at Elmendorf Air Force Base with a 22-year operations and maintenance contract valued at an additional $22 million.

Ameresco will replace a 50-year-old cogeneration plant with a decentralized natural gas system utilizing more than 280 new boilers. The project includes installation of boilers, coordination of new natural gas lines, coordination of electricity points of service, and demolition of the existing central plant and steam pits. The work will result in over 1 million MMBTUs of annual energy savings for Elmendorf AFB and more than $123 million of energy and energy-related cost reductions over a 22-year performance period.

Elmendorf AFB is home to the 3rd Wing, providing the Air Force’s major command, Pacific Air Forces (PACAF), with highly trained and equipped tactical air superiority forces, all-weather strike assets, command and control platforms, and tactical airlift resources for contingency operations. The Wing flies the F-15C and F-15E, C-130, C-12 and E-3, and maintains a regional medical facility to provide care for all forces in Alaska. Elmendorf is also Headquarters of the 11th Air Force, the Alaskan Command, the Alaska NORAD Region, and 94 associate organizations.
