Ameresco Acquires Planergy Housing, Inc. to join forces with Citizens

Framingham, MA – Ameresco President George Sakellaris announced the acquisition by Ameresco, Inc. of Planergy Housing Inc., the public housing subsidiary of the energy services company Xcel Energy.

“We are pleased to add to our Citizens Conservation Services subsidiary the talents and experience in the public housing marketplace enjoyed by Planergy Housing”, said Mr. Sakellaris.

Planergy Housing holds performance contracts with public housing authorities in the upper Midwest, Texas and Florida. Among its public housing clients are Minneapolis, MN; Austin, TX; and Tampa, FL.

Planergy Housing, based in Bloomington, MN, has delivered more than $20 million in capital improvements for housing authorities over the past four years.

John Sprangers, Planergy Vice President, noted the close fit between the approach and market of the two companies: “Existing Planergy Housing customers should be more than satisfied with the experience, services and level of professionalism available from the expanded public housing group at Ameresco.”

Citizens has installed more than $120 million dollars in energy efficiency equipment for public housing customers. With this addition, Ameresco’s division is the largest multifamily energy services company offering performance contracting services, energy risk mitigation, resident programs and infrastructure renewal.

Mary Fox, formerly Director of Public Housing for Planergy, will lead the public housing project development efforts in the Midwest and Texas.
“We are pleased to welcome Ms. Fox and her staff to complement the strongest multifamily performance contracting company in the nation,” said Steve Morgan, Citizens President.
