In the Climate Change Act 2008, the UK Government set legally binding targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 34% of 1990 levels by 2020 and at least 80% of 1990 levels by 2050. To address these targets, Pembrokeshire County Council (PCC) partnered with Ameresco to reduce CO2 emissions, optimise the energy efficiency of its property portfolio, and improve the energy performance of its assets through measured and verified energy efficiency improvements and/or energy generation. PCC also sought to save money through substantial guaranteed annual cost savings and/or income generation.
“County Hall is the Council’s administrative headquarters and a key target for decarbonisation of energy use. In partnership with Ameresco, the system was developed and designed to cover the buildings baseload electricity use, was installed without any loss of car parking area and is easily accessible for maintenance. It is a powerful visual demonstration to our community of the Council’s ongoing efforts to achieve net zero carbon status by 2030. In tandem with the LED lighting installed in County Hall under the Re:Fit programme of work, the solar installation has reduced consumption by 72%. The carport is having a big effect and the Council is partnering with Ameresco to install another solar carport at The Pembrokeshire Archive Centre in 2022.”

We are proud to be working with Pembrokeshire County Council to deliver this Solar PV Carport system which, along with the other Energy Conservation Measures, will deliver multiple benefits for the county including:
- Significant reduction in annual energy and maintenance costs
- Fully compliant and optimal use of Pembrokeshire County Council’s Salix funding
- Upgrades to existing energy infrastructure
- Improved comfort levels for staff and occupants
To deliver energy efficiency and generation assets, Ameresco installed two 49.5kWp Carport Solar PV systems at the County Hall, and are installing a further 29.7kWp Carport Solar PV system at Pembrokeshire archives. Together, the systems will comprise of 288 PV Modules (275W), with a 50kW array supplying a minimum of 3 electric vehicle (EV) chargers. These are a fast-charge type and are supplied by the same power connection as utilised by the Solar PV array.
