Ameresco Wins Energy Savings Performance Contract with ACDA

Ameresco, an energy efficiency and renewable energy company, has secured an Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) from Anchorage Community Development Authority (ACDA) to replace the existing fixtures with energy efficient lighting in four parking garages in downtown Anchorage.

Under this contract, Ameresco will provide design, engineering, equipment procurement, construction and savings verification for the project, enabling the city to cut energy usage, increase lamp, fixture and ballast life, and reduce electric bills and operations and maintenance expense.

This ESPC requires Ameresco to pay all costs involved in identifying and installing the upgraded energy-efficient equipment and recover the costs of these improvements over five years from the resulting energy cost savings.

The energy efficiency project worth $589,000 is funded by the Department of Energy (DOE) through the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant program and is expected to achieve annual energy savings of approximately 1,123,313kWh/year for Anchorage.

Ameresco commenced work on the lighting retrofit project on 1 October 2010 and expects to complete the work within four months, helping the city see reduced energy consumption and improved lighting resulting in safer garages.

Ameresco director of operations Gary Gagnon said that Ameresco is thrilled to be working with the largest city in the State of Alaska, helping them to increase their energy efficiency and pass on energy cost savings.

“ESPCs allow government agencies struggling to maintain the existing facilities to get access to the needed capital to make critical improvements, lower operating costs and meet their sustainability goals by reducing their carbon footprint,” Gagnon said.
