News Channel 20 – Danville welcomes new renewable natural gas facility, boosting local air quality

One of the first renewable natural gas (RNG) facilities in the area has opened its doors in Danville. Ameresco and Republic Services partnered together to bring this facility to Danville, benefiting the environment and local air quality. RNG is a cleaner and more environmentally friendly alternative to regular fossil fuels. However, the facility and use of natural gas will benefit the local community as well. The naturally occurring gas that comes off the landfill includes oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, methane, and countless other contaminants. So how is this gas converted into usable natural gas? Senior Project Developer for Ameresco, Jim Bier, explained how.
