President Obama Delivers Remarks at Ameresco-Installed Solar Plant at Hill Air Force Base
Ameresco has operated and maintained the solar plant since 2009 as part of a multi-phase Energy Savings Performance Contract.
FRAMINGHAM, MA – April 3, 2015 – Ameresco, Inc., (NYSE:AMRC), a leading energy efficiency and renewable energy company, announced today that President Obama delivered remarks on a new solar initiative at the site of an Ameresco-installed solar plant at the Hill Air Force Base in Utah. The President announced a new federal workforce program to train 75,000 solar workers by 2020.
“Ameresco is excited to see the President deliver remarks on the U.S. solar workforce from the site of the solar plant we designed and built, and have operated and maintained since 2009 at the Hill Air Force Base,” said George P. Sakellaris, President and Chief Executive Officer, Ameresco. “We are delighted by the President’s announcement and the initiatives that will help create more jobs and sustainable projects, and we are proud to have the President visit this solar installation.”
Today, the President announced that the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is announcing a goal to train 75,000 people to enter the solar workforce by 2020, some of whom will be veterans. According to the White House, DOE, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD), is launching a Solar Ready Vets program at 10 military bases, including at Hill Air Force Base.
During his remarks, the President acknowledged that Hill Air Force Base is leading by example by getting a portion of its overall energy through renewables including the on-site solar array. Ameresco implemented a multi-phase Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) at the Hill Air Force Base beginning in 2003. As part of the ESPC, Ameresco installed a 210kW ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) array which was commissioned in 2009. Ameresco currently maintains and operates the solar PV array, in addition to a 2.25MW landfill gas to energy (LFGTE) system at the base.
Ameresco’s partnership with the Hill Air Force Base has earned many recognitions and awards for the Air Force. The LFGTE plant was the first landfill gas generation project in Utah and was the first for the Air Force and the Department of Defense.
