Impacts of California’s Latest IRP Proceeding on Renewables Procurement and Decarbonization
California’s new framework for identifying efficient strategies for meeting state goals recently completed its first cycle. The CPUC unanimously voted in favor of the Preferred System Portfolio which consisted of 12 gigawatts of new generation, procured mostly by CCAs. This panel will discuss the lessons learned from the last iteration of the IRP process, how the IRP might change given the current market events, and how it will affect the rate at which renewables are procured.
