Army Officials and Ameresco Join to Commemorate Completion of Energy Efficiency and Solar Project at Adelphi Laboratory Center

FRAMINGHAM, MA and ADELPHI, MD – June 4, 2015 – Ameresco, Inc. (NYSE: AMRC), a leading energy efficiency and renewable energy company, yesterday joined Army officials to commemorate the completion of a multi-phase renewable energy and energy efficiency project at the Adelphi Laboratory Center in Adelphi, Maryland, a research and development facility that falls under the U.S. Army Installation Management Command. Under the most recent phase of the Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC), Ameresco installed facility-wide energy conservation measures, including rainwater harvesting, in addition to 2 megawatts (MW) of solar photovoltaic systems on carports and rooftops.

“Ameresco is proud of our long-time partnership with the Adelphi Lab Center to enhance their energy efficiency and overall sustainability through the budget-neutral ESPC,” said Nicole Bulgarino, Senior Vice President, Federal Solutions, Ameresco. “Since 2002, our multi-phase partnership has helped to reduced energy consumption by nearly 50 percent and has provided more than 4 MW of clean on-site distributed generation for the Adelphi Lab Center.”

Officials participating in the ribbon cutting ceremony included Joseph Watson, Garrison Manager Adelphi Laboratory Center; Kenneth Noppenberger, Director of Public Works, Adelphi Laboratory Center; Thomas Bradford, Chief Engineer, Adelphi Laboratory Center; Joan Pamperien, Department of Public Works Energy Manager, Adelphi Laboratory Center; and Nicole Bulgarino, Senior Vice President, Federal Solutions, Ameresco.

Ameresco has implemented three phases of comprehensive energy projects at the Adelphi Laboratory Center totaling $45 million. Ameresco completed the most recent phase of work this spring, which included $19.6 million worth of energy improvements through nine energy conservation measures including the replacement of five rooftop air handling units; data center HVAC improvements; lab heat recovery, rainwater harvesting; and 2 MW of solar photovoltaic, including 331 kW installed on rooftops and 1,700 kW installed through the construction of solar carports. The solar carport systems are among the largest in the Army.

During phases one and two of the ESPC, Ameresco installed a number of energy-saving measures including a 2.2 MW combined heat and power system (CHP); facility-wide lighting upgrades with occupancy/HVAC controls and outdoor LEDs; high efficiency transformers; high-efficiency chillers; humidification and dehumidification systems; high-efficiency air compressors; and an installation-wide open protocol direct digital control system with commissioning.

Ameresco also is providing long-term operations and maintenance services for the major equipment installed. The combined effect of these ESPC projects supports the installation’s mission and commitment towards Federal energy and sustainability requirements, and have resulted in a site energy reduction of approximately 50 percent.

“We congratulate the Adelphi Lab Center for its leadership in embracing sustainability practices and for its outstanding commitment towards energy efficiency and renewable energy,” added Bulgarino. “Once again, they are leading by example through energy innovation and environmental stewardship.”
