Ameresco Named Finalist at the 2023 Energy Awards
Ameresco’s Project with Colorado Mountain College and Holy Cross Energy recognized for Energy Efficient Partnership of the Year and Ameresco’s EVP Michael Bakas recognized as Energy Champion of the Year
FRAMINGHAM, MASS. – AUGUST 24, 2023 – Ameresco, Inc., (NYSE: AMRC), a leading cleantech integrator specializing in energy efficiency and renewable energy, today announced that it has been named a finalist for two awards at The Energy Awards 2023. Ameresco’s Executive Vice President Michael Bakas has been named a finalist for Energy Champion of the Year and Ameresco’s project with Colorado Mountain College and Holy Cross Energy has been named a finalist for Energy Efficient Partnership of the Year.
The Energy Awards celebrates the energy industry’s innovations and achievements globally in best practice, business excellence, customer service and industry collaboration across 13 categories. 50 experts were selected to be judges for The Energy Award 2023 from significant figures and clients across the energy industry.
Ameresco’s project with Colorado Mountain College and Holy Cross Energy has been named a finalist for Energy Efficient Partnership of the Year for the company’s collaborative energy reduction and savings efforts. Ameresco entered into a power purchase agreement with Holy Cross Energy (HCE), to construct and install a battery energy storage system on land owned by Colorado Mountain College (CMC) and leased by Ameresco. As the largest installation of its kind in Colorado, the combined solar and battery work furthers HCE’s goal of increasing the clean energy sources it provides to its members to 100% by 2030 and completely offsetting its greenhouse gas emission to net zero by 2035. The project offsets 100% of the electricity use of three CMC campuses. Through innovative financial models and climate-driven technology, all parties could eliminate concerns around potential financial barriers and focus on providing the most effective solutions to each party’s environmental goals. The avoided annual greenhouse is equivalent to removing 1,481 passenger vehicles from the road or not burning 7,551,050 pounds of coal.
Michael T. Bakas, Executive Vice President and cofounding member of Ameresco, has been named a finalist for the 2023 Energy Champion of the Year award among eight candidates from across the globe. He is being recognized for his innovative and influential contributions to the renewable energy industry. With more than 30 years of experience, he has played a key role in shaping energy markets and growing Ameresco’s renewable energy asset portfolio. Mike’s team has developed comprehensive projects that incorporate innovative cleantech and financial solutions to advance the decarbonization and resiliency goals for clients across many sectors.
“We are incredibly honored to be named finalists for two prestigious awards at The 2023 Energy Awards. Mike Bakas is a testament to excellence within the energy sector due to his unwavering passion to advancing sustainable and innovative energy solutions,” said George P. Sakellaris, founder and Chief Executive Officer of Ameresco. “Additionally, recognizing our partnership with Colorado Mountain College and Holy Cross Energy as a finalist for Energy Efficient Partnership of the Year reaffirms our commitment to collaboration in achieving energy efficiency goals with our forward-thinking partners.”
The award winners will be announced at The Energy Awards 2023 awards ceremony, which will take place on October 4th at The Grosvenor, London.
