The Quad-City Times – East Moline landfill introduces natural gas converter, turning methane into useable fuel

New technology at the Upper Rock Landfill in East Moline will turn methane into usable natural gas.

The new facility is a joint project between Ameresco, a renewable energy supplier, and Republic Services, the landfill owner. It is expected to avoid more than 27,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions each year, equivalent to the carbon from 326,000 acres of forest, according to a news release.
