Renewables Now – Ameresco to build 50-MW BESS in California

US renewables company Ameresco Inc (NYSE:AMRC) will build a battery energy storage system (BESS) of up to 50 MW in the city of Santa Clara, California, to provide municipal utility Silicon Valley Power (SVP) with additional capacity for reliability and flexibility.

Ameresco said on Monday that it is develop, own and operate the BESS, named Kifer Energy Storage LLC, while SVP will supply the charging energy. The BESS will have a maximum capacity of 200 MWh, helping to efficiently integrate surplus renewable electricity and enhance local area capacity.
