Mark Apsey
Senior Vice President, UK Operations
Mr. Apsey serves as Senior Vice President, UK Operations at Ameresco, a leading energy solutions provider, where he holds P&L responsibility and leads the strategic growth of the UK business. With over 20 years of executive leadership in energy, engineering, and project delivery, Mark has a proven track record of scaling high-performing businesses and delivering complex infrastructure projects to accelerate the energy transition.
Since becoming Managing Director in 2020, Mark has rapidly scaled the UK division into a market leader in delivering innovative, sustainable energy solutions across the public, commercial, industrial, and infrastructure sectors. Among a robust project resume, he led the successful negotiation of the landmark £1 billion Bristol City Leap Partnership—one of the UK’s most ambitious city-wide decarbonisation initiatives—which is set to create more than 1,000 local jobs and generate £61 million in social value within its first five years. Mark serves as a Board Director for the partnership, working closely with local government and stakeholders to deliver on net zero ambitions. This unique partnership received global recognition at the World Economic Forum Urban Transformation Summit in 2024 with an Award of Distinction for Public-Private Collaboration in Cities.
A visionary in city-scale decarbonisation and public-private partnerships, Mark combines deep technical expertise with a commercial and governance mindset. He served as the 83rd President (2024/25) and is a Trustee for the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), Board of Trustees. In this capacity, he delivered his landmark Presidential Address at the Royal Society of Chemistry, titled “History, Science and Engineering a Sustainable Future.”
Earlier in his career, Mark held engineering and leadership roles at Atkins, GlaxoSmithKline, and EnergyExcel, gaining experience across the chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and energy sectors. He holds a Master of Engineering (First Class Honours) in Chemical and Process Engineering from the University of Exeter and is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and Fellow of IChemE (FIChemE).
In recognition of his contributions to sustainable energy, Mark was awarded Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2020 New Year Honours.
