CBC – Major energy efficiency upgrades and solar farm coming to CFB Gagetown

A new solar farm and upgrades to buildings to increase energy efficiency are coming to CFB Gagetown in Oromocto over the next several years, federal officials announced on Thursday.

“The solar farm and the retrofit project demonstrates our commitment to reducing the environmental impact of defence activities here in Canada,” Ginette Petitpas Taylor, minister of veterans affairs and associate minister of national defence, said at a news conference.

The federal government is spending $55.6 million to upgrade 255 buildings on the base, including LED lighting upgrades, high-efficiency gas generators and water fixtures, and geothermal technology, among others.
