SUMMARY:Distributed Energy Resources in Texas: Resilience and Reliability in the Time of COVID
DESCRIPTION:June 17\, 2020 | 2:30pm CT \nAdvanced energy technologies are providing critical resilience to support essential Texas businesses and Texas residents. For example\, clean energy microgrids can support hospitals respond to the surge of coronavirus patients. Rooftop solar\, energy storage\, and energy efficiency provide reliability\, resilience\, and lower energy bills\, while families are working and learning from home in this new normal. But even when the COVID crisis is past us\, distributed energy resources will play a critical role in the Texas economy by bringing advanced energy jobs and economic growth to Texas. Texas Advanced Energy Business Alliance (TAEBA) recently released a report showing that DERs can bring $5.47 billion of value over 10 years by prolonging the use of existing\, functional utility infrastructure and by better integrating DERs into electricity markets. This webinar will discuss opportunities that DERs bring to Texas and provide case studies of how DERs are bringing value to Texas. \nPanelists:\nTom Lyons\, Vice President – Asset Development\, Ameresco\nSuzanne Leta\, Senior Manager\, Global Market Strategy\, SunPower\nMona Tierney-Lloyd\, Head\, U. S. State Public Policy and Institutional Affairs\, Enel X\nJeff Morris\, Director\, State Government Relations\, Schneider Electric \nModerator:\nSuzanne Bertin\, Managing Director\, TAEBA

SUMMARY:Energy + Environment Leader 2020 Award Summit
DESCRIPTION:Mission Critical Operations – Achieving Energy Resiliency on Campus at US MCRD Parris Island \nJuly 21st | 2:30pm ET\nNicole Bulgarino\, Executive Vice President Federal Solutions\, Ameresco\nRobert Johnson\, Senior Vice President\, Hannon Armstrong \nIn 2015\, the United States Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) Parris Island selected Ameresco to complete a comprehensive energy infrastructure project with the overarching goal of optimizing energy resiliency. The MCRD Parris Island is responsible for training more than 20\,000 recruits annually and its operations are mission-critical for preserving national security. Financed by an energy savings performance contract (ESPC)\, Ameresco deployed combined heat and power and solar photovoltaic generation assets\, installed an advanced battery energy storage system and automated microgrid control system\, and implemented a variety of energy conservation measures to optimize efficiency and reduce reliance on the main utility grid. The MCRD Parris Island has deployed more than 10 MW of on-site energy and will save $6.9 million annually in utility costs and reduce 37\,165 metric tons of CO2. \nDuring this webinar\, attendees will learn about the mission critical energy strategy in place at MCRD Parris Island\, featuring cutting-edge renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies across its 8\,095-acre campus. This session will discuss measures taken to reduce energy demand by 75% and reduce water consumption by 25%\, and explore how on-site generation and advanced energy technologies provide the base with energy resiliency features to maintain power during utility interruptions. During the discussion\, campuses of all shapes and sizes will be inspired by this 2020 Energy + Environment Award Winning Project on how achieve critical resiliency and sustainability goals.

SUMMARY:Energy Storage in Microgrid Development
DESCRIPTION:Microgrids consist of distributed energy resources connected to the distribution system for normal operation\, but which can also operate as an “island” system apart from the rest of the power grid to provide localized power during a widescale outage. Microgrids have been gaining attention lately for their role in reinforcing reliability and resilience\, with Department of Defense (DoD) military bases among the leading adopters. \nThe earliest microgrids typically used diesel backup generation to power critical loads during an outage. As both PV solar and energy storage became less expensive and more widely deployed\, solar and storage became integrated into a diversifying set of microgrid resources. Newer microgrids provide clean energy for normal operation and steady power in the event of grid outages. Wood Mackenzie recently projected that energy storage combined with solar\, wind or hydro will power 35 percent of microgrid capacity installed in 2025\, up from 14 percent in 2019. \nThis webinar explores the increasing role of energy storage in microgrid design and operation. Two presentations will focus on incorporating storage into microgrids at DoD installations and the final panelist will present a recent analysis of the resilience implications of storage paired with solar PV. \nSpeakers:\nJim Bishop\, Director – Advanced Technology Solutions\, Ameresco\nLakshmi Srinivasan\, Senior Systems Engineer\, Lockheed Martin\nRyan Hledik\, Principal\, The Brattle Group
