Community Solar

Community or shared solar, is a solar farm that provides electricity and renewable energy benefits to multiple end-users. Communities are turning to solar energy to help reduce energy costs and meet sustainability goals. Ameresco can support Municipalities or Businesses with their Community Solar and Clean Air initiatives.

Through a power purchase agreement (PPA), net metering credits from community solar projects enable residents and businesses to lower their electricity costs and reduce carbon emissions.

In one example, a PPA is expected to provide millions of dollars in electricity cost savings over the duration of the contract. Under the PPA, fifty percent of annual electricity generated from the facility will be used by the Town in the form of metering credits, and the other half by the Community Solar Program which will deliver the green power to residents in the region.
