Since October 2009, as part of the Ontario Power Authority Feed-in Tariff Program, Ameresco has worked with school dsctircts, colleges, universities, private businesses and municipalities to develop solar power with reduced risk, low up-front costs and reliable long term revenue streams.
The Ontario Power Authority (OPA) has developed the Feed-in Tariff (FIT) Program in the Province of Ontario to encourage and promote greater use of renewable energy surces, including solar photovoltaic (PV), for electricity generation in Ontario. The FIT Program is a comprehensive pricing structure that provides the owner of renewable energy systems with a fixed, 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) at a guaranteed price. The PPA allows public and private organizations to pursue solar energy projects, secure financing and guarantee returns through the sale of electrical energy back to the power grid, at a fixed premium rate.
