Department of Energy Savannah River Site Biomass Cogeneration Facility
Under a $795 million Energy Saving Performance Contact (ESPC), the largest renewable-energy ESPC in U.S. history, Ameresco repalced coal-fired cogeneration facilities at the Department of Energy’s Savannah River site in Aiken, South Carolina. The new facility generates 240,000 pounds of steam per hour and generate 20MW of electricity, reduces emissions and reduces the amount of water taken from the Savannah River. Biomass fuel is sourced from forest debris collected within 100 miles of the site, helping to control long-term operating costs.
