Biography

Mr. Derrington has served as our executive vice president and general manager, federal operations since April 2009. From 2004 to April 2009, Mr. Derrington was our vice president and general manager, federal operations.

He is responsible for the management and direction of Ameresco’s Federal Solutions group. He directs over 100 employees in the Federal group, including Director-level and supervisory personnel responsible for federal project implementation, construction, engineering, accounting, financing, and business development. He is responsible for establishing business plans and goals, and assuring that the overall organization has sufficient staff and resources to achieve those goals and plans.

In 2013, Mr. Derrington was appointed to the U.S. Department of Commerce Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Advisory Committee (RE&EEAC) in Washington, D.C.  This industry committee advises the U.S. Department of Commerce on competitiveness issues facing U.S. renewable energy and energy efficiency exports, including services. Additionally, the committee consults the Department on programs and policies to expand U.S. renewable energy and energy efficiency exports and efforts to strengthen their competitiveness globally.

Mr. Derrington has over 30 years of progressive business leadership and management experience and is recognized as a leader in performance contracting. From 2000 to 2004, Mr. Derrington was vice president and general manager of the federal group of the ESPC business of Exelon, an electric utility. He has previously held the positions of project engineer, project manager, and program manager.

Mr. Derrington earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Vanderbilt University. He is also a registered Professional Engineer in Tennessee and Missouri and is a Certified Energy Manager (C.E.M.).
