Ameresco renewable energy projects have won acclaim from federal agencies and local governments, and received numerous awards from green energy associations and environmental groups. Clean-energy projects from Ameresco have been recognized several times by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
In 2006 the EPA named Ameresco its Energy Partner of the Year for its groundbreaking BMW Manufacturing Landfill Gas to Energy Project. With the help of Ameresco, the BMW manufacturing plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, is able to harness gas emissions from a Palmetto landfill to provide 70% of its yearly electricity needs and prevent the emission of 55,000 tons of carbon dioxide annually.
In 2012 Ameresco received a RenewableEnergyWorld.com Project of the Year award for its new biomass plant at the Department of Energy Savannah River Site in Aiken, South Carolina. Funded by the largest renewable-energy ESPC in U.S. history, this cogeneration plant provides steam and electricity by burning forest-reside biomass collected within a 100-mile radius of its location.

In 2011 Ameresco was granted the Energy Institute’s Award for Energy Excellence for helping the City of Vancouver, British Columbia, to achieve its goal of becoming the world’s greenest city by 2020. Through its partnership with Ameresco, the City of Vancouver has already reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 28% and cut energy costs by nearly $1 million annually. The EPA has also granted Ameresco its Landfill Methane Outreach Program (LMOP) Award for converting landfill gas to clean energy for heating state correctional facilities in Missouri and providing low-cost electricity to residents in California.
