Colorado State University
Pueblo, CO

Colorado State University’s Pueblo Campus accommodates more than 4,000 students on a 275-acre campus. In July 2004, the university signed a $6 million Energy Savings Performance Contract with Ameresco. Total savings for this project was $457,931, which was 107.1 percent of the plan. Ameresco provided to the university design, build, project financing, training, and measurement and verification services. The implemented measures included boiler plant decentralization, three new chillers, four new cooling towers, lighting upgrades and controls, laboratory fume hood exhaust controls, aspirated solar heater, pool cover, vending machine controllers, water conservation, cooling tower ionization, and gas sub-metering. The boiler plant decentralization portion of this project provided a more stable and reliable heating solution while enabling the maintenance staff to focus their attentions on preventative maintenance instead of corrective maintenance. The operation and maintenance savings for shutting down the central plant and the condenser cleaning savings under the ionization measure were stipulated for an aggregate of 29 percent of total savings or $139, 166. This project was substantially completed in March 2005.
