Ox Mountain Landfill Gas-to-Energy

Allied Waste is a key partner in an innovative plan to produce “green” electricity from landfill gas. Ameresco, Inc. today announced an agreement with Allied Waste to purchase electricity generated by the company’s planned renewable energy power facility in Half Moon Bay, CA. Ameresco will purchase landfill gas from the Ox Mountain solid waste disposal facility and use it to produce renewable energy. “Northern California and the nation are faced with the need to produce more domestic, alternative energy resources,” said Michael Bakas, Ameresco Vice President. “Ameresco is proud to be in a long-term partnership with Allied Waste and the Cities of Alameda and Palo Alto to bring this exciting renewable energy project to fruition. This project represents the second, new renewable energy facility in Northern California that Ameresco will bring on line in 2005.” The planned new facility, located in Half Moon Bay, CA, will generate 11.5 megawatts of clean electricity – enough power for over 7,500 average homes. The electric output of this facility will be sold to Alameda Power & Telecom, a department of the City of Alameda, and the City of Palo Alto.
