Boomtown Hotel & Casino
The ChallengeBoomtown Hotel & Casino first opened its doors in 1952 as Bill and Effie's and is owned today by Pinnacle Entertainment, Inc. Located Verdi, Nevada, this family style hotel and casino includes 318 rooms, 29 suites, 5 restaurants, a convention center with banquet and meeting facilities, retail stores, business offices, a health club, an indoor pool and spa and a multitude of activity and entertainment areas for its guests including approximately 172,000 square feet of casino floor area. The total square footage of this luxury facility is approximately 478,000 square feet and operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Before project implementation, Boomtown solely used propane for it’s domestic hot water, heating hot water, heating and cooking needs. At times in the Verdi, the cost of propane was double that of natural gas.
Our SolutionThe most significant part of this project was to install a new 8” natural gas pipeline from the town of Verdi, Nevada two miles to the Boomtown Hotel and Casino site. Natural gas was run at the facility to the Main Casino Building, the RV Park, the Lower Warehouse, the Truck Stop, the Tire Center and the Mini-Mart. All surveying, permits, excavation, piping, connections, cut, frame and patch were included. Additionally, all existing propane equipment was converted to natural gas and /or replaced with new equipment if it was not convertible.
This energy retrofit project also included replacement of existing rooftop gas/electric packaged units with new high efficiency rooftop gas/electric packaged units and installation of extensive energy efficient lighting throughout the facility including restaurants, hotel lobby, hallways, back of house and casino areas.
ImpactThis project and the installation of a new natural gas line provided a much-needed alternative to propane use by Boomtown Hotel and Casino for both their current and future needs.
