Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board
The Challenge
With 60% of its building stock over 30 years old, Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board (KPRDSB)in central Ontario faced a daunting list of improvements. The Board had already worked with Ameresco Canada and Ontario Hydro on initiatives to reduce utility costs. To garner further energy savings, a longer-term vision was needed.
Our Solution
Working with Ameresco Canada, KPRDSB came up with a list of projects, 70% of which had to be done regardless of energy savings. Projects included:
- installation of electronic ballasts and T8 lamps in 45 buildings
- water conservation measures for toilets and urinals in 48 schools
- replacement of old boilers in five secondary schools and conversion of oil to gas heating in another five schools
- equipping 100 portables with heat recovery ventilation systems with occupancy controls
- modifications to HVAC systems, building automation systems and sub-metering.
Impact
$5,765,000 CAN invested saves $505,000 CAN per year
