Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board
The Challenge
Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board was looking to solve two problems when it hired Ameresco to retrofit 56 elementary and secondary schools: Reduce their $3.2 million CAN annual energy bills and replace lighting, boilers and other systems that were at the end of their useful life.
Our Solution
The eastern Ontario school board stretches north from Prince Edward County on the shores of Lake Ontario to Bancroft, about 200 km north and has 2.5 million square feet of building stock. Ameresco Canada invested $10 million CAN to retrofit lighting and HVAC control systems, conserve water, improve building envelopes and ceilings, and replace boilers. A unique direct digital control (DDC) system was installed to connect all buildings to the Board’s wide area network, enabling maintenance staff to identify problems from off-site locations.
Impact
30% reduction in utility costs
Testimonial
“. . . the biggest benefit is seeing new equipment installed in our buildings and the enthusiasm we get – from the teaching staff that see better lighting to the custodians that are operating their boilers and are amazed at how this very small boiler is heating the building.” Don Tregenza, Controller of Plant, Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board.
