The Challenge
Boeing was already outsourcing non-core functions like energy generation. The leading aircraft manufacturing company was nearing the end of a 35-year thermal energy outsourcing agreement, and looking for a new and experienced energy generation partner who could “hit the ground running” to modernize and operate the central thermal plant for their Space & Communications facility in Huntington Beach, California.
Our Solution
Ameresco offered a carefully designed, step-by-step program to more efficiently operate and cost-effectively modernize the thermal energy plant, which gave Boeing the confidence to entrust their critical production lines to our experienced team. The comprehensive plant modernization program was completed while at the same time maintaining full delivery capabilities.
Impact
The new, fully automated energy generation infrastructure, which includes 5,500 tons of chilled water and 56 MMBtu of high-temperature hot water, has improved efficiency and reliability and also improved environmental performance at the Huntington Beach campus. Boeing has also gained vitally needed flexibility for future operational requirements.
