Allegheny Technologies, Incorporated
The Challenge
Allegheny Technologies Incorporated (ATI), with sales of $2.1 billion in 2001, is one of the largest producers of specialty metals in the world. In this highly competitive marketplace, ATI needs to aggressively manage their energy expenditures – on both the supply side and the demand side.
Our Solution
Ameresco offered the full range of capabilities on both sides of the meter with the structuring flexibility that ATI required. The agreement, which is believed to be the most comprehensive energy alliance in the specialty materials industry, covers the following services:
- Supply and risk management for natural gas and electricity
- Utility rate optimization
- Facility upgrades and improvements
- Energy data management
The critical factor for ATI was the ability to work with one vendor yet retain control of when and how various energy-saving initiatives would be implemented. Some activities, such as risk management and energy data management, are managed at the corporate level while others, such as facility improvements, are implemented at the local site level.
Impact
Supply-side management has produced significant savings , and ATI expects to benefit as well from a Power Factor Correction project currently being installed at the Allvac plant in Monroe, North Carolina.
Testimonial
“The Ameresco relationship has yielded impressive results for ATI since its inception,” says Brett Luedde, Corporate Energy Manager. “Over that time, more than $10 has been returned for every dollar invested in our partnership. The folks we work with are creative, hardworking, and aggressive,” adds Luedde.
