Dana Corporation

The Challenge

Dana Corporation is one of the world's largest suppliers of components, modules and complete systems to global vehicle manufacturers, with sales of $12.3 billion in 2000. The Company wanted to change their decentralized energy management in order to capture the benefits of bulk purchasing of energy commodities and corporate-level risk management. They were looking for a true “partner” to share the risks and rewards.

Our Solution

Ameresco proposed a comprehensive set of services that included supply management, rate optimization, and bill payment for more than 193 Dana facilities in the United States and Canada. The agreement is performance-based, with both parties sharing in the savings achieved through competitive procurement and rate negotiation. Ameresco is also developing projects to increase energy efficiency at Dana Corporation’s major manufacturing facilities.

Impact

Nine months into the agreement, Dana is seeing lower natural gas basis costs as a result of deploying Ameresco’s energy procurement expertise. Dana has also made use of Ameresco’s knowledge of the broad gas market to lock in gas commodity costs at opportune times. Ameresco expects to finalize electricity contracts for a number of Dana facilities in some key states over the next 2 months.

Testimonial

“The procurement experts at Ameresco have been great to work with,” says Jerry Carter who heads up Dana’s energy initiative. “With our plants’ geographic diversity and historic decentralized approach to energy, we presented them with a challenge, but their efforts are yielding results. We look forward to expanding upon the achievements to date as the Ameresco deployment unfolds,” adds Carter.
